Monday
surreal life 9 p.m. on VH1. In a world rich in reality shows that throw together a handful of strangers (see “Big Brother,” “Real World”), why not add one more? This is nothing new (the last season he aired was in 2006). This time, his eight celebrities, including Frankie Muniz, Stormy Daniels, and Dennis Rodman, moved into the house together, and moments of turmoil are sure to follow.
Tuesday
Making Black America: Through the Vines 9 p.m. on PBS (check local listings). This four-part series is hosted by Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. I will conclude this week. Gates Jr. speaks to politicians and academics about the organizations and social he networks that blacks have created for blacks. The final episode explores the media phenomenon of black Twitter as a safe haven for discussion and celebration.
Tree of Life: Shooting at Pittsburgh Synagogue 9 p.m. on HBO. On October 27, 2018, a man armed with an assault rifle and several handguns killed 11 congregants at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. This makes him one of the deadliest attacks against the Jewish community in the United States. , survivors, and family members working towards a cure.
Side News Tonight’s Investigation: When Murder Isn’t Murder 11pm in Vice. In 2015, LaKeith Smith was 15 when he and three friends burgled a home in Alabama. When the police showed up, they shot and killed their friend Adonte Washington, but under Alabama law, Smith is now serving 30 years in prison for Washington’s murder. It means that someone not involved can be charged with murder even if they are also committing a felony such as robbery. This one-hour special of his tells the story through unreleased police interrogation tapes and body camera footage. It also spotlights the movement to get Smith out of prison.
Thursday
siesta key 8 p.m. on MTV. Residents of “Siesta Key” are moving to Miami this season.Most of the original cast will return, including de facto narrator and star Juliette Porter, but Kelsey Owens and Garrett Miller said they would return casually cut from the show. It’s missing some familiar faces, but you can expect it to be sprinkled with gorgeous overhead shots of southern Florida, plenty of altercations, and romance.
crib 9 p.m. on MTV. 22 years in the making, this iconic reality show offers a sneak peek into celebrity homes. This season, we welcome Matt James of ‘The Bachelor’ fame, model Olivia Culpo, and current ‘Dancing With the Stars’ contestant Jesse James to his Decker home.
Friday
Poltergeist (1982) 8pm at TCM. Directed by Tobe Hooper and written in part by Steven Spielberg, this film teaches us that friendly ghosts don’t always communicate via television. For the Freelings, spirits quickly turn terrifying and menacing, and parapsychologists and exorcists come to the rescue when their five-year-old daughter (Heather O’Rourke) goes missing. “‘Poltergeist’ is a thoroughly enjoyable nightmare, a nightmare that you can wake up at any moment, and in the end a nightmare where no one is permanently harmed,” says Vincent Canby in New York. wrote in the review of times.
Saturday
Hotel Transylvania (2012) Freeform 7:20 p.m. In this animated movie, a famous hotel serves as a safe haven for all kinds of monsters. But when Count Dracula (Adam Sandler) throws a party for her daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez) for her 118th birthday, a human (Andy Samberg) bursts into the party and tells Mavis I fall in love. It’s that classic star-crossed love story between humans and monsters.
The Addams Family (1991) 7:30 p.m. at Paramount. Based on the cartoon and 1964 TV show of the same name, this version stars Angelica Huston and Raul Julia as Morticia and Gomez Addams. The family is thrilled when a man appears claiming to be Gomez’s long-lost brother, Fester (Christopher Lloyd) — suspicions arise that he’s not who he says he is, and he steals the family’s fortune. In her review for The Times, Janet Maslin wrote, “Thanks to inventive casting, drawl production design, spirited directing and masterful camera tricks, it’s entertaining and far exceeds the limits of its original source.” It’s a revival,” he wrote.
Sunday
The Silence of the Lambs (1991) 8pm on the BBC. If you’ve seen Netflix’s Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, you’ll notice a chilling parallel to Anthony Hopkins’ portrayal of Hannibal Lecter. In this film, Jodie Foster plays a student at his FBI training his academy and interviews Lecter, who is serving a life sentence. In his review for The Times, Vincent Canby wrote, “The gruesome details are brought to life without exploitation.”
white lotus 9 p.m. on HBO. After a successful first season (and several Emmy wins), the anthology show is back. A whole new group of vacationers fly off to another White Lotus resort in Sicily. The new cast includes Aubrey Plaza, Theo James, and Tom Hollander, and he’s one familiar face. Jennifer Coolidge will reprise her Emmy Award-winning role as Duffy’s heiress Tanya McCoyd.
