Neither Bobby (Billy Eichner) nor Aaron (Luke MacFarlane) are the dating type. This only adds to the tension of the Central Park encounter in this scene in “Brothers.”
Bobby brought a large blanket to sit on and Aaron chose a spot on the lawn instead. is not Aaron’s type. Director Nicholas Stoller, who co-wrote the script with Eichner, said it was based on his real-life experience when Eichner brought a blanket to the park and his lover refused to sit on it.
However, this scene shows the two characters starting to fall in love with each other in both passive-aggressive and just-aggressive ways.
“It was important to me to dramatize this shift from never being vulnerable to slowly letting your guard down,” Stoller said. Yes, but I also had to play it romantically.”
Bobby feels a little threatened by Aaron’s attraction to athletic, sports-focused “stupid guys”, so he questions Aaron about the attraction, as he puts it. It transitions into intimate moments, serving both as tension-relieving jokes and as a narrative bridge to new directions for these characters.
