The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on Iranian “persons” involved in supplying Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) during the deadly war in Ukraine.
The Defense Ministry said Thursday that three air transport service providers, three companies and one individual involved in “research, development, production and procurement of UAVs and UAV components in Iran” are rushing Moscow to resupply the war effort. It said it was designated by the United States to assist.
Bryan Nelson, Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, said: “Russia is making increasingly desperate choices to continue its gratuitous war against Ukraine, especially in the face of unprecedented sanctions and export restrictions. there is,” he said.

Nelson said the United States “will not hesitate” to impose sanctions on groups or individuals found to be supporting Russia’s war effort.

Thursday’s sanctions mean businesses or people associated with them are no longer allowed to enter the United States or do business with anyone in the United States.
The designation comes nearly two months after the United States first accused Iran of “gifting” hundreds of drones to Russia to help with a supply shortage in Ukraine.
The Biden administration announced earlier this week that it expects Russia to buy North Korea rockets and artillery to wage war.

“The United States will hold those who support Russia’s gratuitous war against Ukraine to account,” the State Department said late Thursday. “We will also use all available tools, including sanctions, to prevent, deter, and dismantle procurement networks that supply UAV-related materials and technology to Iran.”
The U.S. Treasury Department said in a statement that the sanctions were not meant to “punish,” but to encourage “positive change in behavior.”
