The U.S. Africa Command, in collaboration with the Somali government, carried out an airstrike on Sunday targeting al-Shabaab terrorists, the Pentagon said.
The terrorists, who killed two people, attacked the Somali National Army near Brobarde, a city about 135 miles north of Mogadishu.
No civilian casualties have been reported, according to an initial assessment by U.S. Africa Command.

The strike, which came about three weeks after U.S. forces began airstrikes in Somalia, killed Abdullahi Nadir, the top leader of what the Pentagon said was “the world’s most dynamic al-Qaeda network.” .
“U.S. Africa Command, along with its partners, continues to take action to prevent this malicious terrorist group from planning and carrying out attacks on civilians,” the Pentagon said in a statement.
Earlier this month, the State Department also imposed sanctions on five al-Shabaab leaders believed to be involved in terrorist attacks in Somalia and neighboring African countries.
