A man charged with throwing a dog over a bridge twice said he was instructed to do so by a witch, police said.
Spartanburg County Environmental Enforcement Officers responded to a call on Monday, October 3, 2022, that someone threw a dog from a bridge over water on Highway 11 in the Fingerville area of Spartanburg County.
Witnesses told police the man had thrown the dog off the bridge. When officers searched the area under the bridge, they found a man (he was later identified as 43-year-old Shannon Lee Cantrell) holding a dog in a chokehold.

Cantrell told officers that a “witch” had told him to throw the dog off a bridge. He said he owned the dog and released it to Spartanburg County.
Officers determined that the distance from the bridge to the ground was approximately 34 feet. Police said the one-year-old dog had no visible injuries, but was “clearly upset.” The dog was taken to Greenville County Animal Care for evaluation.
