Russia’s Foreign Minister ripped up House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, calling it an “annoyance” and the West accusing Russian President Vladimir Putin of incessantly showing off America for just that. was predictable. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s takeaway was that despite warnings from China that she didn’t want Pelosi in China’s backyard, Pelosi did what she wanted and did it well.
Of course, China cannot dictate the travels of American lawmakers, but it can provoke them.
The visit has so upset Beijing that it appears to have led to virtually littoral military exercises surrounding the island nation this week. Given , how does this play into the larger geopolitical situation, particularly the escalating tensions between the US and Russia, which are inherently China-backed?

Russia and the US are in an indirect war in Ukraine, he says. “But[Pelosi’s visit]may make the Chinese abandon their lingering illusions about doing business with the United States, which is good for Russia,” Trenin told Fox News.

Pelosi is the highest-ranking U.S. public official to visit Taiwan in a quarter century. “America promised to always stand by Taiwan,” she said. “Today, our delegation has come to Taiwan to make it clear that we will not abandon our commitment to Taiwan.”

However, the visit made it clear that “the United States remains the top player in the world. It can deal with both its Russian and Chinese opponents at the same time. They claim they can. According to Trenin, the visit shows that “the United States remains the top player in the world. They claim they can do whatever they please, ignoring the protests of the great powers.”
Taiwan certainly welcomed Pelosi with open arms, and her remarks about America’s commitment to democracy to be “irregular” worked.
Trenin claims that relations between Russia and China are also quite strong. They have passed the “stress test” since Feb. 24, he says. Perhaps most importantly, Trenin concludes that Russia’s eastward pivot has been completed, ending 300 years of “for better or worse” Western orientation.
