Oklahoma State’s Tom Hutton isn’t the only Cowboys punter this season.
He made his season debut Thursday night at age 32, making him the oldest player in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) this year.
Hutton, a native of Australia, is a senior at Oklahoma State University and has been punts for the past three seasons.
Hutton joined the Cowboys as a 29-year-old freshman, and three years later he’s showing why the Cowboys love him in punters.

Early in Thursday night’s game between the No. 12 Cowboys and Central Michigan, Hutton had two punt opportunities. One was muffed by Central Michigan, but Chippe recovered at his 13-yard line of their own.
The second was a perfect pin at the 2-yard line, readying the Oklahoma State defense to secure safety just before the end of the first quarter.
Hutton had his best season with the Cowboys in 2021, averaging 42.4 yards per punt on 72 attempts for 3,056 total yards. His longest punt was his 62 yards in 2020 and his longest in 2021 was his 60 yards.

Hutton went 1-1 in 2019 with a 20-yard pass on a fake punt.

When Hutton joined the program, he was already working 10 hours a day in a paper mill. His wife also traveled to the game with him. head coach mike gundy In 2019, the team joked that they didn’t have to do a bed check to see if Hatton was in his room before the game.

The NCAA doesn’t keep age statistics, but Hutton isn’t the oldest college football player of all time. The award could go to Joe Thomas Sr., who ran for his 3-yard run at South Carolina State University in 2016 when he was 55.
