New York City Councilman Vicky Palladino reportedly successfully foiled a plan to house immigrants inside a hotel in the district.
According to the New York Post, the city had planned to fill 115 rooms at the Hotel de Pointe in Queens. He said he offered to take him by bus to the area, Greenwich, Connecticut.
“This is a very run-down, poverty-stricken area. Most people are on public assistance,” Palladino said of his district. “We’re a transportation desert. Our school can’t handle it. We also have a roof-breaking crime problem at College Point right now.”
Mayor Eric Adams’ administration has denied it canceled plans to fill the hotel due to Palladino’s protests.

An immigrant bus arrives in New York City and is greeted with a handshake and a blanket
Texas sent five buses full of immigrants to New York City last week alone. Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott has argued that the move is necessary to make America’s most powerful city feel the effects of the immigration crisis.
The state has sent dozens of buses to New York City, Washington DC, and Chicago.
Manuel Castro, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Immigration Service, came to greet Transfer from 4 buses Arrived in New York last week.
“Like the day before, our priority is to make sure the asylum seekers are well. We have food and water medical services within the port authorities,” Castro told reporters.
“He’s weaponizing asylum seekers,” Castro added of Abbott. “It is shameful and it is our moral duty to condemn the use of humans for political purposes.”
Abbott argues that NYC, a proud sanctuary city, should be able to accommodate people crossing its borders.
