Tokyo issued a warning to residents to evacuate after North Korea launched a ballistic missile over Japan on Tuesday.
The missile was launched from the North Korean coast, reported by South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) and Japan’s Coast Guard.
The projectile was believed to have landed in the Pacific Ocean. Japan’s prime minister’s office has reportedly issued a warning to residents of the Tohoku region to evacuate nearby buildings, for the first time in five years.

Japanese government spokesman Hirokazu Matsuno said, “North Korea’s series of actions, including repeated ballistic missile launches, threaten the peace and security of Japan, the region, and the international community, and pose a serious challenge to the entire international community, including Japan.” said. he said in a brief press conference.
The launch, seen as an apparent response to military exercises between South Korea and the United States, marks North Korea’s fifth weapons test in the past 10 days. North Korea sees these drills as rehearsals for aggression.

Missiles launched in the last four launches were short-range and landed in the waters between the Korean Peninsula and Japan. These missiles are capable of hitting South Korean targets.
According to Reuters, the latest launch was North Korea’s fifth launch in 10 days and showed military power against the United States and South Korea, which conducted trilateral anti-submarine exercises with the Japanese navy last week.
