A New York man who beat a 67-year-old Asian woman more than 100 times as she tried to enter her apartment earlier this year was sentenced to 17.5 years in prison on Tuesday after admitting to committing a violent hate crime. It was handed down.
Tamer Esko, 42, left the victim with a brain hemorrhage, multiple facial fractures, and other bruises and lacerations.
The brutal assault was captured on surveillance video, which shows the woman placing the key in her apartment door before Esko attacked her from behind.
Esco punched, spat on, and trampled the upper body of a Filipino woman more than 100 times, calling her an “Asian b—-.”
“Today’s agreement ensures justice for the brave victims who endured the shocking attack and its aftermath, and for communities affected by the trauma of this hate-driven violence,” said Westchester County District Attorney. ‘s Miriam Roca said in a statement Tuesday.

Esco was originally charged with second degree attempted murder as a hate crime and second degree assault as a hate crime.
He pleaded guilty to first-degree assault as a hate crime under a plea deal signed on Tuesday. He will be sentenced to his 17 1/2 years in prison and five years of supervision after his release on November 29th.
