A San Francisco man was arrested Tuesday morning on suspicion of vandalizing a 29-story apartment building and opening a fire hose valve to force tenants to evacuate a massive flood.
Firefighters were called to 100 Van Ness near the Civic Center at 5:30 am due to a report of a fire alarm. First responders reportedly found a naked man next to a pipe from which water gushed.
The suspect, identified by FOX 2 San Francisco as 46-year-old Michael Nien, was a high-rise resident. Residents say he opened a fire hose valve on his 11th floor, causing high-pressure flooding throughout the building.
The suspect was arrested Tuesday for felony vandalism and resisting arrest. He was later booked into the San Francisco County Jail.

“Water was gushing out,” resident Emily Igler told FOX 2 San Francisco. “From the water main she was 10 feet below and a massive 6-foot-high jet of water was erupting.”
“We will never stay here again,” added the resident. “Our bedroom is a mess and there is water all over the place.”
