According to the Justice Department, a 31-year-old man bought more than 70 guns in six months, some of which were found to have been used for crimes in gun trafficking plans in two states and Canada.
Demontre Antwon Hackworth was charged last week with trading firearms without a license and making false statements while purchasing firearms. He was arrested Friday by an agent at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in Dallas.
According to federal prosecutors, Hackworth bought at least 92 guns from federal-licensed firearm dealers, 75 of which were purchased from sellers’ licensed dealers in six months.
He allegedly resold the firearms without a license and without a background check. At least 16 of the firearms he purchased were recovered in Texas, Maryland and Canada, officials said.

According to the Justice Ministry, three of the weapons were used in multiple crimes. One was used in three cases โ two worse assaults, one illegal possession, and two in two cases each.
“There are real consequences when an individual engages in the business of buying and selling firearms illegally,” said Jeff Boschek, a special agent in charge of the ATF Dallas Field Division.
At least 14 of the recovered guns were discovered after an incident within a year of purchase. Officials said one was recovered from the incident just seven days after Hackworth bought it.
