Popular dating app Hinge is rolling out “selfie verification” to verify the authenticity of its users.
The tool uses a combination of technology and human moderators to compare profile pictures with selfie videos taken in-app in real time.
After the selfie is taken, facial recognition technology compares the shape of your face to the user’s profile photo.
Facial geometry data is typically deleted within 24 hours after verification.

Once the selfie is verified, a “verified” badge is added to the user’s profile.
To detect fraud, machine learning techniques are in place and Hinge trains content monitors.
For example, automatic scanning of red flag language and image profiles, device fingerprinting and photo hashtags, manual review of suspicious profiles, activity, and user-generated reports.

Hinge also blocks email addresses, IP addresses, and other identifiers associated with known bad actors.
“Hinge’s team utilizes a suite of AI and machine learning tools to proactively remove potentially fraudulent accounts before users see them or cause damage. We continue to invest in innovative technology and moderation tools to prevent and disrupt malicious harm,” a Hinge spokesperson told F.

Selfie Verification will be available to all users in December.
Wired reported an increase in fake Hinge accounts.The outlet said a spokesperson for Match Group Verified Photo Verification Coming to Hinge, OKCupid and Match.com in the coming months.
