The commander of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in Parkland, Florida, was fired a few days after a gun loaded by a school resource officer was discovered at a charter school.
The sheriff’s office told Parkland Talk that Captain Craig Caravetta was fired on Monday. Fox News has contacted law enforcement agencies.
Caravetta began his career as a Parkland Public Security Officer for over 30 years and was promoted to Captain of the Parkland Division. According to the report, in 2021 he was elected District Director, Parkland’s Supreme Law Enforcement Officer.
The reason for the dismissal has not been disclosed.

His departure came 11 days after the two guns owned by the principal of Somerset Parkland Academy were found in the box on June 2.
The weapon was discovered by a school resource officer at Sheriff’s Office, and then passed to an investigator. They determined that the weapon belonged to the school principal, Fox-affiliated Gailer Castro, WSVN-TV reported.
Parents were not notified of the incident until 24 hours later, but the student did not contact the gun or the sheriff’s office press.
