A convicted felon in Bradenton, Florida, allegedly shot and killed a man Sunday in self-defence when a man approached him brandishing a machete.
Bradenton Police Department officers responded to a report of the shooting around 3:30 a.m. Sunday and found a man with two gunshot wounds upon arrival.
Police have not named the victim, but he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators attempted to locate Bruce Brooks, 35, who fled the scene after shooting the man, but police said he was not a suspect.
Brooks, a felon with a criminal record, eventually contacted investigators and said the 32-year-old victim was involved in a domestic dispute outside his home just before 3:30 a.m.
Brooks said the argument escalated after the victim yelled at a neighbor before arming himself with a machete and going out into a neighbor’s yard to approach him.

However, Brooks is a convicted felon and is therefore barred from owning a firearm.
