Chicago police are investigating eight murders and dozens of shootings that have already rocked the windy city over Labor Day weekend, according to a preliminary law enforcement report.
Six of the homicides were by guns, one was a stab wound and one died after being hit by a car while walking on the sidewalk.
The first fatal shooting occurred just after noon on Friday when a 27-year-old man was shot in the back during a drive-by shooting on the South Side.
A 35-year-old man was also shot in the torso and jaw and died late Friday afternoon.
At approximately 6:30 p.m., the suspect in two vehicles jumped out of the vehicle and opened fire on a 24-year-old man walking on the sidewalk, fatally wounding him.
Two men in their 20s were shot dead Saturday in a separate incident, and a 38-year-old man was stabbed to death in a domestic incident, according to preliminary reports.

Shortly after midnight Sunday, a 29-year-old man was shot dead during an altercation at his Southside home.
Chicago police are also investigating the death of a 22-year-old man who was run over by a sedan on a sidewalk Sunday morning as a homicide.
Dozens of other shootings left victims with injuries in Chicago by Sunday night.

Last year, 797 people were killed in Chicago, according to police data. This is 25 more than he did in 2020, the most since 1996.
Despite Labor Day weekend riots, the number of homicides this year has dropped by about 16% to 444 as of August 28.
