A family in Chicago was robbed and attacked near a CTA station on the city’s South Side on Monday.
Police said the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. when the family, including a 43-year-old mother, a 23-year-old daughter, and an 18-year-old godson, were walking around the 95th Street Red Line station. Fox 32.
Daughter Kenya A. Merrills broke her nose after the attack. Her mother, Laura Irvine, said she was getting off a train when the attack happened, and a group of nearly 10 people began attacking Godson, she said.
When the mother and daughter tried to stop the attacks, they were hit in the face and back.

Police said the suspect stole personal belongings from the group and fled the scene.
According to Merrills, the group was downtown while she was enrolled in college.
“I was assaulted for going downtown to go to college. Then I asked the CTA employees, why didn’t you participate? We were on the same trains and buses.Nobody did anything.And we asked them,”I work here.They always come so I fear for my life.” And nothing has been done,” Merrills said.

Irvine’s godson and Merrills were taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Police said they had not taken the suspect into custody.
A CTA spokesperson said security guards are being deployed based on data showing where incidents are occurring.

“They are deploying them strategically based on recent data based on recent incidents,” the spokesperson said.
After a string of crimes in the CTA’s Red Line system over the summer, Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said at a news conference Aug. 6 that more officers would be assigned to trains in the CTA system. .
