A Canadian man with a history of child sex crimes has been charged with illegally crossing the U.S. border with his two children and their mother by walking through a barbed wire fence.
US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said Benjamin Martin Moore and his common-law spouse crossed the US-Canada border near Turner Port.
Harbor Border Patrol agents detected the severed fence while patrolling along the border, according to CBP.
Investigators called the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and authorities identified Moore, a Canadian with a history of sexual assault and child pornography, as the border jumper’s suspect.

Canadian authorities issued an arrest warrant for Moore on Friday in connection with the investigation, but an amber alert was issued after they found the residence where he lived with his two children and their mother empty. .
An investigation eventually led authorities to a campground in Sturgis, South Dakota, where they arrested Moore and his common-law spouse.
Child welfare agencies in South Dakota and Saskatchewan, Canada are working together to return the children.
“There was a collective sigh of relief across all agencies involved in bringing these two young children back to safety,” said Tyler Bates, Saskatchewan’s RCMP South District Superintendent, in a statement. “There is clearly a long way to go with the many investigative tools that need to be tracked.”

Moore and his common-law spouse are currently being held in Pennington County Jail pending immigration and customs enforcement.
