The New York State Police released footage Friday of the moment two officers rescued a teenage driver from a burning car in early September.
Soldiers Michael Winkelman and James Flynn Coclek were on Middlebush Road in the town of Wappinger when the crash was heard around 3:26 a.m. on Sept. 22, according to the NYSP.
A 2007 Honda Odyssey was found smashed into a barn and set ablaze while patrolling State Route 9D for sounds. The fire spread rapidly from the van to the barn.
Winkelmann and Flynn Kokulek initially tried to put out the fire, but had to change gears to move the unresponsive 17-year-old driver to safety, state police said. .

In the video, one of the troopers can be seen pulling a teenager out of the car through the passenger side window and away from the burning car.
The driver was taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital, where he was arrested for driving under the influence, although his injuries were not life-threatening.
“As the video shows, their decisive actions likely prevented the tragedy,” the NYSP said on social media.
State Route 9D was closed for about 12 hours as multiple fire departments confronted large blazes that completely destroyed a barn and a nearby utility pole.
