President Biden appeared at Wilkes College in Pennsylvania on Tuesday to roll out a ‘safer America plan’ to tackle crime in the United States
After warming the crowd, the president referred to simpler times in his childhood when his family didn’t have to worry about street crime or drugs.
“Too many families don’t have peace of mind[today]. They watch the news. They see their children being gunned down in schools and on the streets almost every night. Watch the news.” Turn it on and that’s what you see, said Biden.
He added: “They see their neighbors lose loved ones One to drugs like fentanyl. They see hatred and anger and violence walking the streets of America and just want to feel safe again. That’s my whole criminal plan. ”

In Biden’s hometown of Scranton, about 20 miles from Wilkesbarre, the odds of being a victim of a violent or property crime are 1 in 47.
With crime on the rise, the president said he expected too much from the police, from civil protection to psychologists and sociologists. He said more funding was needed to train and employ more police officers and stressed the need to rebuild trust between police officers and the community.

Biden also said he was determined to ban assault weapons and tighten gun control, but he was not completely against guns. We want to take a leading role in temporarily banning assault weapons, including firearms, and bring the law back.
Biden said his new plan would provide more funding for preventative measures, including after-school and summer work programs and mental health resources.
“All of these measures prevent crime, not increase it,” Biden said. I ask you to protect me.”
Biden also called out some Republicans for defending Trump supporters who stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
“Let my MAGA Republican friends in Congress say this: Don’t tell me you stand for law enforcement. If you don’t condemn what happened on the 6th, don’t tell me… Which side are you on?” said Biden. “You are a party of law and order and you cannot call people attacking police on January 6. Patriots.”

Biden ended his speech by calling on the audience to vote Democrats in the midterm elections. It was the first of three of his visits next week, underscoring Pennsylvania’s role as an important political battlefield. Former President Donald Trump will host his own rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Biden has tried to balance his approach to crime by acknowledging voters’ fears and praising law enforcement, but he’s also called for greater accountability for officers.
He rejected the activist slogan, “Defend the police money.” The slogan has been used by many Democrats over the past two years, and by Republicans as a stick against Democrats in general.
Biden has developed a $37 billion plan to combat crime and boost law enforcement resources. He hopes Congress will spend his $13 billion to help communities help him hire and train 100,000 police officers in his five years. The rest of his $3 billion will be used to settle court backlogs and solve cases involving murders and guns, and his $5 billion will be used to stop violence before it occurs.
