Health officials in the Texas capital have reported the first presumed case of monkeypox.
The Austin Public Health Service said it may have been infected with monkeypox and is in close contact with someone who may have recently left the state.
Residents of Travis County are quarantined at home and health officials are doing contact tracing to prevent the spread of the virus.
Researchers say monkeypox is mutating more than previously thought
“The threat of monkeypox remains low, but if you suspect you have viral symptoms, we recommend that you be aware of all residents of Travis County and seek medical care,” said Austin-Travis County Medical Director. Dr. Desmer Walks said in a statement on Friday.

Symptoms of monkeypox include fever, malaise, and headache, and a rash develops into a lesion.
The CDC reported seven cases of monkeypox in Texas.
