A Mississippi man was shot dead by police on Tuesday morning after he barricaded himself in his home and “held a policeman at gunpoint,” according to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
The shooting occurred around 10:30 a.m. in the city of Meridian, eastern Mississippi, according to an MBI news release. Meridian Police told WTOK-TV that the shooting took place at a nursing home, Meridian Living.

Police said a man came into the facility’s lobby and threatened an employee with a pistol before officers were called. Police told the news station they shot and killed a man with a weapon after encountering him.
No police officers were injured. MBI did not release other details about the man who was shot or the officers who responded. The agency is investigating the incident, as are most shootings involving law enforcement officers in the state.
