Actress Anne Heche remains in a coma and was not expected to survive the injuries sustained in a car accident last week.
Heche, 53, was seriously injured on August 5 when her Mini Cooper crashed into a home in Los Angeles’ Mar Vista neighborhood, officials said. She had suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and was being treated at West Hills Hospital’s Grossman-Burn Center.
“She has long opted for organ donation. She remains on life support to determine if she has viable organs,” the statement said.
The crash started a fire that took 59 firefighters more than an hour to put out. According to the Los Angeles Fire DepartmentHeche was the only person in the car, officials said.
On Monday, another agent, Michael A. McConnell, told Reuters Heche had not regained consciousness since shortly after the accident.
In 1991, Heche won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Young Actress in a Drama Series for playing the good-evil twins in NBC’s soap opera Another World.
