4 quick cybersecurity steps everyone should take right now

1. Old routers are easy to hack

Your router may be doing a good job keeping you connected to the internet, but are you staying secure? The latest security standard is WPA-3, released in 2018. Any router that uses WPA-2 encryption should be replaced.

Perform cryptographic checks on your router. Go to your router’s administration menu.[ワイヤレス]or[セキュリティ]Below the menu, the encryption status is displayed. Need help? Tap or click instructions to do this on my site.

If your router doesn’t support WPA3, WPA2-PSK AES is the next safest option. It’s also a sign that you should get a new router. Below we explain how to choose the best router.

2. missing

When buying a router, you can also future-proof your network. More and more devices support Wi-Fi 6, but it’s pointless if your router doesn’t support it.

Wi-Fi 6 significantly improves two key categories: speed and range.

Homes with many connected technologies such as phones, computers, smart TVs, printers, smart speakers and smart home devices put a definite strain on the network. A Wi-Fi 6 router can easily handle 50+ devices.

It has better features than Wi-Fi 6, but it’s not yet available on many devices. Wi-Fi 6 uses the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, while Wi-Fi 6e operates in the 6 GHz band. This technology is embedded in many mesh networks.

3. Weak signal in certain areas

Your home needs a consistent, high-speed network. A single router works fine for small spaces, but what about multiple rooms or floors?

Mesh networks are more popular and affordable than ever before. Instead of relying on a single router, a mesh network adds satellite modules around your home to provide coverage for an entire area.

These systems usually come in sets of two or more units that work together. As far as gadgets go, Wi-Fi mesh is one big continuous network that eliminates poor coverage, dead spots, and buffering.

internet out? Read this before unplugging everything. It’s the only way for a technician to reboot the router.

4. Your device needs more power

how old is your router? A router that only supports the 2.4 GHz frequency is a dinosaur.

A single-band router uses only the 2.4 GHz band and one wireless signal.

A dual-band router uses the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands to transmit two simultaneous wireless signals for better performance.

Tri-band routers typically feature 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, plus an additional 5 or 6 GHz band for transmitting a total of three wireless signals.

You need to replace your single-band router. A dual-band router that supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz is more than enough for his home with less than 5 connected devices. For homes with more than 5 devices connected, get a tri-band router that supports 3 signals.

5. How to choose a new router

I get requests all the time from people who want to know how to choose a router. It’s hard if you don’t know what to look for. Amazon has pages selling from $20 to his $1,000+.
