Chicago Police Department has lost two police officers and one sergeant in suicide in the past few months, officials revealed on Monday – critics say it’s a harsh environment for police officers and brass I continue to cancel holidays.
At a news conference, Superintendent David Brown said, “Their losses are tragedy affecting families, departments and the city of Chicago, respectively.”
“If someone is forced to live on fast food and caffeine and lives 12, 13, or 14 hours a day in that constant state, which we call hypervigilance, it’s a sacrifice.” And Sgt. Betsy Brantner Smith, a spokesman for the National Police Association, told FoxNews Digital. “Look at the last three police officers who committed suicide, these weren’t veteran police officers, these were pretty young people-and it’s scary.”

She said Chicago suffered 60% more police suicides than the average law enforcement agency due to declining morale across the country.
“You have a mayor who looks down on her police station very much,” said Brantner Smith. “You have a good director, but he [Mayor] Lori Lightfoot. You have an exhausted officer. Holiday cancellations and forced 12-hour shifts, it’s exhausted. “
Studies have shown that fatigue is a major cause of physiological and emotional problems, as police officers struggle to sleep in the car between shifts and spend long hours and holidays. She added.
Mr Brown said in a briefing on Monday that the summer vacation was canceled “because officers need to make sure they are safe on the street.”

He says the summer weekends surrounding War Dead Memorial Day, Worker’s Day, Father’s Day, and Worker’s Day are “the most violent weekends in history” in Chicago, and the city is historic. He added that overpriced police officers were shot and shot.
“When the dark alley cop is asking for help, do you rather reduce the number of street cop or increase the number of street cop?” He asked.
Brown also said other supervisors made the same decision to cancel the vacation 30 to 40 years ago.
The Chicago Police Department has the lowest staff in recent history, with the department as Lille from the “generational resignation”
Chicago brothers police declined to comment the day after the president accused Brown of “lying” in an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times on Tuesday. He said holiday cancellations have become more and more common in the last three years.
At a press conference, Brown seemed to admit that things had worsened in the last two and a half years.
“I argue that becoming a police officer in this country was the most difficult time in the last two and a half years,” he said. “In our profession, we receive the greatest rewards because we can help people every day, but we also carry the greatest risk of serving and protecting each day.”

“Everyone cancels the holidays, but they haven’t reached the level they are currently doing,” says Brantner Smith.
Brown also raised another factor in the wake of suicide. He said the department “needs to do a better job to make sure our executives are aware of the services that are there for them.”
But when you don’t have time for yourself or your family, it can be difficult to take advantage of them, Brantner Smith said.
