Police said a Wisconsin Senate Democrat was involved in a car accident last Friday, killing two people, including a 27-year-old Pennsylvania mother and a 5-year-old daughter.
According to her office, Janet Bewley, a 70-year-old minority leader in northwestern Wisconsin, was not injured in the crash.
“We sit with them and look at everything until we decide how it really happened,” Ashland Police Chief Bill Hagstrom told Ashland Daily Press. “Then, it was a fatal accident, so we transfer everything to the district attorney for their review.”
Not yet charged, state patrols were rebuilding the crash.

According to Ashland police, the accident occurred shortly before 12:30 pm on Friday after Beauliee pulled from the entrance to the beach at Lake Superior into the path of a car driven by Alyssa Automan. When Ortman’s car collided with Bewley’s car, it spun across Highway 2 and collided with another vehicle.
Ortman’s five-year-old daughter was declared dead at the crash site. According to police, Altman was taken to a nearby hospital and she later died. Hagstrom said Bury wasn’t taken to the hospital.
“This is a tragic event for the community. Our thoughts and prayers focus on the individuals involved, their families, and their loved ones,” Bewley’s office told Fox News on Tuesday. Said in a statement. “Senator Burley, who was not seriously injured in the accident, would like to thank all the dedicated law enforcement agencies and emergency medical personnel for helping in the aftermath of the accident.”
