Dr. Ashish Jar, White House COVID-19 Advisor, has assured Americans that monkeypox poses a “quite small” threat to the general public, even if the World Health Organization (WHO) declares an emergency. ..
“No American died of monkeypox from this outbreak,” Ja said during a Fox News Sunday appearance. “I don’t know globally, but I think it’s very rare, but since there are no Americans who died of monkeypox, the risk to a wider population is much smaller.”
The WHO has declared that the monkeypox virus is currently a public health emergency (PHEIC) of international concern. Secretary-General Tedros Adhanom Gebreyes admitted on Saturday that the level of infection did not previously meet the criteria, but has continued to grow.
Currently, more than 16,000 cases have been reported in more than 75 countries and territories, with five confirmed dead.
