The Republican Governor of Virginia, who gives a speech on Saturday, is not noteworthy.
As an exception, he makes it in Nebraska.
Glenn Youngkin’s unusual trip to Cornhasker is beginning to draw attention as rumors of a potential 2024 Republican presidential bid swirl.
Yongkin, who won an upset victory at the Old Dominion last year, is traveling to Nebraska this weekend to rally a party loyal to the state’s Republican National Convention.

Political strategists say the trip was speculative given Nebraska’s proximity to Iowa, the first state to hold a contest in the presidential primary, and the overlapping media markets. ..
Omaha, Nebraska’s largest media market, is across the river from Iowa.
“Going to Nebraska is as close as going to Iowa without actually stepping into the state,” said Republican consultant Brendan Steinhauser, who ran some high-profile campaigns. “It’s hard to know for sure his motivation, but at least he’s exploring orchid ideas, or seems to be terribly flirting.”
Yongkin’s political team denies that travel has self-serving political reasons. They say his keynote at the convention is just a favor to Pete Ricketts, the governor of Nebraska, who is also the president of the Republican Governor’s Association.

The timing of the visit is coincidental, but it is in line with Yongkin’s group of active media attention and attention-grabbing actions.
Last month, the governor legislated the state budget for the first two years and launched a campaign to promise tax cuts while spending more money on education than any other government in history.
The budget has brought Yongkin great success in just seven months of his term. Also, the Governor was able to take some time, as the Virginia Parliament will only meet for 30 days next year to focus on out-of-budget issues.
Yongkin, who cannot run for reelection, seems to be particularly motivated to take advantage of downtime.
In November, the Governor launched both state and national political action committees to help elect candidates above and below ballots. One of those PACs has already raised over $ 2.6 million, thanks to Youngkin’s wise courtship to mega-donors nationwide.
Yongkin also plans to cross Virginia and other countries in this cycle to campaign for Republicans.
Karen Tumulty, a columnist at The Washington Post, wrote, “It’s worth watching carefully as Yongkin begins to rise in national profile.” “Republicans have won popularity polls in just one presidential election since 1988. He may not be the man to end the drought, but it’s a thing of the past to find someone.”

Republican strategists have stated that if the governor chooses to participate in the race, the governor may be a candidate. They said Yongkin ran last year what could be called a national race, with many people firmly assessing it as democratic.
“He has an interesting message that resonates with voters, especially those looking for newcomers,” Steinhauser said. “He could be a substitute for Trump, but he’s also an acceptable figure for the majority of Republicans because he’s never considered a tramper.”
We still don’t know if that lane will be big enough in 2024, especially if Trump decides to run again. Anyway, most people say that the presidential election will be wider than most people think.
“The races are pretty open, especially here in Iowa,” said Bob Vanderplatz, who runs Family Leader, a strong and socially conservative group in Iowa. “Some people are grateful to many enthusiastic Trump supporters and former presidents, but others are ready to turn the page.”
Vanderplatz argued that Trump was his favorite, but others, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, could break out. He added that Yongkin was talented, but little known in Iowa.

“This trip to Nebraska may put him in the news a bit here,” he said. “But that would probably raise the question of why the newly elected governor is out on the road without returning. That’s what he has to face if he chooses to race. is”
