Matthew Fitzpatrick overtook Will Zaratris and Scottie Scheffler to win the US Open on Sunday and finish 6 under in the tournament.
This was Fitzpatrick’s first major victory in one of the toughest courses at a country club in Brookline, Massachusetts. He finished best at the PGA Championship last month and finished fifth in Thailand.

He is the second player to win the Men’s US Open and the Men’s US Amateur at the same venue. Jack Nicklaus is the only other golfer to accomplish this feat.
Fitzpatrick and Chefler were competing for the lead all day, and Zaratris had a chance to send to the playoffs on his final putt. He missed it slightly and finished in the tournament’s 5 under par.
The world’s number one golfer, Chefler, has kept pace with Fitzpatrick and Zaratris. He entered the clubhouse with 5 under pars for the tournament. He had the final round 67.
It reached the end between Fitzpatrick and Zaratris. After bogey on 10 and 11 and saving a par on 12, Fitzpatrick nailed a 48-foot putt for a birdie on the 13th hole. Fifteen big birdie putts gave him a two-shot lead for Zalatoris and Scheffler.
Zalatoris had a chance to return, but was short on the 17th. Things were opened to Zaratris on the 18th after Fitzpatrick hit a tee shot into a bunker. However, a clutch shot from the bunker returned Fitzpatrick to the green, saving a par.
Hideki Matsuyama continued to fight with the leaders at the end of the round. He shot 65 in the final round and entered Clubhouse 3 Underpar. Collin Morikawa also stayed within range in the final round 66. He was 2 under par in the tournament.

Matsuyama won the Masters in 2021, and Morikawa won the British Open Championship in 2021 and the PGA Championship in 2020.
Rory McIlroy finished the tournament with 2 under par 4 at 69 in the final round. He hoped that the momentum of his victory at the RBC Canadian Open last week would have been brought to the National Open, but he couldn’t catch the leader on the final day.
Defending champion Jon Rahm finished with an over par.
Fitzpatrick began to heat up as soon as May began.
He finished second in the Wells Fargo Championship with Cameron Young and Keegan Bradley. He brought that momentum to the PGA Championship, finishing two strokes behind Justin Thomas and Zaratris.
Although he missed a memorial cut, he bounced off the top 10 finishes in the RBC Championship and culminated in his first major championship at the National Open.
