A medical school oath ceremony spoken by students at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine raises eyebrows at a line the student reportedly recited.
Among other promises made publicly in August, medical students pledged to “respect the healing methods of all indigenous peoples who have been marginalized by Western medicine,” and to “respect white supremacy, colonialism.” [and] gender binary. “
“It’s a mess,” said Fox News medical contributor Dr. Marc Siegel, during an appearance on Saturday’s “Fox & Friends Weekend,” reacting to this weekend’s events.

In a public statement, the students also said, “We are committed to eradicating the legacy and perpetuation of structural violence that is deeply ingrained in our healthcare system.”
Their pledge included the following words:
Dr. Siegel said of the change in circumstances: [use] The latest technology that can really make an impact [on] patient care. “
“They are also working to heal our planet. So what about healing ourselves and healing our patients?” Dr. Siegel also said.
A medical student from Minnesota also said, “I pledge to embrace my role as a community member and strive to embody cultural humility.”
Dr. Siegel pointed out the importance of the traditional Hippocratic Oath to physicians. It is the whole idea of doing no harm and being humble and kind as a medical professional.
“We should be studying medical textbooks.”
He said it becomes a problem “when people start programming things to say.”

He also talked about the traditional white coat worn by doctors, and wondered if today’s awakened educators and administrators would at some point demand changes in the color and appearance of professional clothing.
“We are supposed to study medical textbooks,” Dr. Siegel also said.
“What happened to this patient?” It is called a differential diagnosis. “Am I doing the right treatment? Am I ordering the right test?”
But those who care most about being “politically correct” are equally likely to give or focus on the health-based responsibilities they study and commit to uphold in their professional practice. He suggested that it may not have been the case.
