Former Rams and Falcons running back Todd Gurley is likely to retire from football, confirmed Friday in an interview with NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano.
“I don’t think there’s any question about it,” Gurley said when asked if he was done.
Gurley was then asked to confirm that he did not intend to quit football and return to the NFL, and Gurley replied, “Yeah, definitely.”

Over the past few days, Gurley has taken to Twitter to thank current and former NFL players, fueling speculation that his retirement is pending.

“I just wanted to show my appreciation because there are a lot of men on this planet and especially as all alpha males we don’t show the love we are supposed to. I just wanted to let those guys know I am grateful for everything they have done for me, from the level of inspiration just watching them when I was four or five years old.
“We don’t do that much. We don’t greet each other or congratulate each other. We meet after the game and that’s it. I just wanted to let everyone know that I appreciate you guys.”
Gurley’s career lasted six seasons.

He was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2017. A year later during his 2018-2019 season, he led his entire NFL with 17 rushing touchdowns. He also caught four touchdowns for 580 yards that season.
As a key part of the Los Angeles Rams offense, Gurley led the team to the Super Bowl to close out the 2017 season. However, Gurley saw limited action at the Super Bowl.
The Rams’ offense struggled in the 2018 Super Bowl, losing 13-3 to the Patriots. After the game, the Rams revealed Gurley was suffering from arthritis in his knee.
Knee problems continued to plague Gurley during the 2019 campaign.
The Rams then released him and signed him with the Atlanta Falcons for the 2020-2021 season. He appeared in 15 games that year, rushing for 678 yards and scoring nine touchdowns.

Gurley played college football in Georgia. During his stay in Athens, he amassed an impressive 3,285 yards rushing and 36 rushing his touchdowns, recording a total of 615 receiving yards.
Injuries were also part of his outstanding career in Georgia, recovering from an ACL injury to join the NFL.
However, Gurley rushed for 1,102 yards to earn Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.

When the franchise was in St. Louis, the Rams selected Gurley 10th overall in the 2015 draft. He finished his NFL career with his 6,082 rushing yards.
