“I fake a back injury. I pretend I have a migraine. I had eight doctors going to me at the same time,” Perry said. “I woke up that day and had to get 55 Vicodin and had to find a way to do it. It’s all math when you’re a drug addict. You have to go to a place and take 3. Then I go to this place and I’m going to be there long so I take 5. It’s exhausting but you have to do it, Otherwise you’ll be very, very ill.I’m not doing this to feel good or to feel good.I was certainly not a party person.Sit on the couch I just wanted to drink 5 bottles of Vicodin and watch a movie, it was heaven for me, not anymore.
Perry said he has been clean for 18 months. This means that he will be newly free of drugs and alcohol when the “Friends” reunion airs in May 2021.
“I probably spent $9 million or something trying to sober up,” he estimated.
Most addicts don’t have Perry’s resources. For the record, Perry isn’t a big fan of the secrecy associated with Alcoholics Anonymous, which sponsors three members. He explained: By the way, this is not a popular opinion. ”
Perry’s demeanor lit up when he talked about his latest obsession, pickleballs. He plays with friends and hired pros. He said, “Before this interview, I thought it would be a good idea to cheer up and play some pickleball, but I’m basically trying to fall asleep in your lap.
So what inspired him to write the book?
After a long stay in a hospital in Los Angeles, Perry began looking up his life story in the notes app on his phone. When he reached page 110, he showed them to his manager, who told him to continue. At the dining table in his room he worked about two hours a day, but not more.
Perry has written for television before (“The Odd Couple,” “Mr. Sunshine”), but “I’m writing a book I never really thought about before,” he said. “Every time I came across something I didn’t really want to share, I thought about the people who were helping me, and that pushed me forward.”
