The Uvalde High School Coyotes are getting a new look this season thanks to their local NFL team.
The Houston Texans donated new uniforms and equipment to Uvalde High School on Friday morning.
Head coach Robbie Smith and linebackers Christian Kirksey and Kam Grujer-Hill surprised the team at a pregame dinner Thursday night before the Coyotes’ home opener.
It will be the first home game since gunmen killed 21 people, 19 of them students, on May 24 at Robb Elementary School, about 2.5 miles from the high school.

Texas athletic trainer Roland Ramirez, a Uvalde native, inspired Texans to visit the coyotes.
“It’s been hard. Some of my really close friends have lost loved ones… so it’s heartbreaking for me,” Ramirez said via Yahoo!. sports.
“Any time I get a chance to be helpful, inspirational, or someone who understands the minds of these young men, I get to talk ball and talk about life.” Please,” Kirksey told ABC News.

Senior linebacker Justin Rendon, whose brother was at school during the shooting, was given number 21 in recognition of the number of lives lost. The team unanimously decided not to retire, but to give the number to a senior who “embodies the humble and hard-working spirit of the team and community.”
The Texans will also wear “Uvalde Strong” decals on their helmets at the season opener on September 11. Uvalde will play against Winn High School on Friday.
