The Swiss government announced Wednesday that it plans to procure 40,000 doses of monkeypox vaccine and 500 units of antiviral drugs.
The military said it aims to simultaneously procure 60,000 doses of the vaccine and 500 doses of the drug as part of its preparedness measures, as the vaccine can also be used during outbreaks of other smallpox viruses.
In a statement, the government said the drugs and vaccines and their use in private health care would cost about 8.6 million Swiss francs ($8.9 million).
