Serena Williams officially participated in the Wimbledon field on Tuesday through a wildcard invitation. Because she is ready to participate in the tournament for the first time in a year.
Williams’ name wasn’t initially on the single entry list when it was released earlier this month. The All England Club has announced that Williams and five other players have been given wildcard invitations. Other players are Katie Boulter, Jody Barrage, Sonai Cartal, Yuriko Miyazaki and Katie Swan.

Earlier on Tuesday, the 23rd Grand Slam Champion suggested she play at Wimbledon.
“SW and SW19. It’s a date. See you in 2022,” she writes. Instagram post I’m showing tennis shoes on the grass court.
SW19 refers to the zip code of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquette Club. The facility hosts the Wimbledon Championship each year.
Williams, 40, hasn’t played in Wimbledon last year since he faced Aliaksandra Sasnovich for a leg injury. When she retired, the match was a 3-3 draw in the first set.
