Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is calling for repeal of the Espionage Act after the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided former President Trump’s Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago.
Paul made the announcement Saturday night in a tweet.
“Espionage was abused from the beginning to imprison opponents of World War I. It is long past to repeal this egregious insult to the First Amendment,” Paul tweeted. .
FBI agents executed a search warrant at Trump’s Florida mansion on Monday and seized items including 11 sets of materials listed as confidential, as well as those marked top secret.

After the warrant was released Friday, Trump said in a post on Truth Social that the documents taken by federal agents were “all declassified.”
“First, it was all declassified. Second, they didn’t have to ‘seize’ anything. They could have it whenever they wanted without doing politics or intruding on Mar-a-Lago.
