Sarah Palin is one of three candidates advancing to Alaska’s special elections in August to fill the US House of Representatives seats left vacant after the death of Congressman Don Young.
Republican Young held a seat for 49 years before he died in March at the age of 88.
Alaskan novels, mostly mail elections, took place on Saturday and included candidates for all parties in the state’s only seat.
Palin was one of nearly 50 candidates and was more well known than many other candidates.

The number of votes was 132,730, with Palin at 28.3%, followed by Republican Nick Begich at 19.3% and independent Algros at 12.8%. Democrat Mary Peltola was 8.7% and Republican Tara Sweeney was 5.5%.
The top four will advance to special elections in 2020, including a rank selection system approved by voters.
The winner will serve until January, the end of Young’s term.
