A San Francisco district attorney called off a debate on Thursday after being heckled by a group of student protesters.
District Attorney Brooke Jenkins debated challengers John Hamasaki and Joe Aliot Veronese on stage at San Francisco State University.

After about 20 minutes of debate, a group of student protesters began yelling at Jenkins and holding signs.
Jenkins’s campaign said the chaos lasted more than 10 minutes, and security officials advised the district attorney to leave the office.

People chanted “no justice, no peace” in protest over the postponement of the trial for the murder of the police officer who shot and killed alleged carjacker Keita O’Neill in 2017.
Others reportedly carried signs referencing Jenkins’ decision to indict the boy as an adult for a particularly heinous crime.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed appointed Jenkins as the city’s new DA in July.
Jenkins vowed to “restore” order to the city when she took the oath, and is currently campaigning on that promise.

One of Jenkins’ first business orders in his new position was to instruct employees to review all outstanding petitions to see if they should be withdrawn. She laid off more than a dozen staff employed during her predecessor’s tenure. Suggest a review of the city’s surveillance ordinance. Cracking down on anti-Asian attacks. To hold drug dealers accountable, among other initiatives.
She is represented by state senator Scott Weiner, supervisor Raphael Mandelman, state treasurer Fiona Ma, san francisco sheriff Paul Miyamoto.
