Rory McIlroy wasn’t afraid to speak his mind about the exiles from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf.
However, some of them have played alongside McIlroy as European teammates in the Ryder Cup.
Ian Poulter, Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood have teamed up with McIlroy in the Ryder Cup and are now in LIV, but they have issues right now that won’t be easy to deal with.
Poulter and Garcia attended the players’ meeting of the BMW PGA Championship, part of the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour), on Tuesday. McIlroy is absent.
“It wasn’t a situation where I wanted to know who was in that room,” he told The Golf Channel. “So I removed myself from it and let them hash it out.”
McIlroy is currently not affiliated with any of those three players.
“Right now, I can’t say I have much to do with them,” McIlroy said. “But if you’re just talking about the Ryder Cup, that’s not the future of Ryder Cup teams.”
Jon Rahm and Billy Horschel play Rip Golf ‘The Hypocrites’ on the European Tour
McIlroy didn’t want to see those who attended the LIV at BMW. Jon Rahm and Billy Horschel also spoke out about those playing in DP events.
“What I don’t understand is that some players who showed no interest in the European Tour, who showed no interest in participating in this event, were given the opportunity just because they could get world ranking points. It means that it is being done,” said Rahm. Via New York Post.
“Others are given the opportunity to not care about this event. They don’t know. They don’t care. They don’t know the history of this event,” Rahm added. “They’re here because they’re trying to score points in the world rankings and break into the top 50. It’s obvious.”
Horschel even called them hypocrites.
“It’s pretty hypocritical to come here and play outside the LIV when I want to spend more time with my family and play less golf,” he said.
