The current record was set by Bonds in 2001 when he hit 73 home runs. However, all three of his players, Bonds, Maguire and Sosa, have performed well in their careers but have not been inducted into the Hall of Fame despite the statsline declaring their worth.
Last week in Toronto, it was the first time Maris Jr. spoke with a judge on this quest. He said he found it just right that there are many similarities between these two players of his. Judge was wearing his number 99 and Maris was wearing his number 9, both playing right field.
Judges did not hit 62 as Maris hit 61 on Oct. 1, but he did in the Yankees’ 161st game. Maris said he did the same in 1961.
It’s strange that that number remains part of Yankee lore.

After all these years, it’s amazing to see MLB change their minds with Judge overtaking Maris.
But Maris Jr. wasn’t the only one congratulating the judges on their incredible accomplishments. The final Yankees captain, Derek Jeter, took to social media to share his warm words and his outlook for next week.
President Joe Biden also delivered a congratulatory address.
