The man who climbed the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge In Washington DC Friday, protesting the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the Roe v. Wade case, remained in his position for more than 24 hours before getting off Saturday afternoon.
Protester Guido Reichstadter began climbing the bridge around 10 am on Friday. FOX 5 DC..
While Reichstadter was standing on the bridge, traffic stopped when authorities tried to contact him.
Reichstadter planned to stay on the bridge for as long as possible. Upon reaching the top of the bridge, his water bottle fell to the ground, leaving him unhydrated.
He was detained by police after getting off the bridge arch on Saturday afternoon, according to a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Department.

Reichstadter hopes that stunts will stimulate civil disobedience nationwide in response to the Supreme Court’s ruling.
“I know that if I can reach the top of this beloved bridge, you can reach the street!” He Tweet Friday. “Shut down it non-violently every day until our rights are protected. I’m here, I love you so much!”

According to police, bridge traffic was open to the public on Saturday afternoon.
The height of the arch of the bridge is 70 feet.
In a tweet calling for support for a “non-violent civil resistance movement for the right to abortion,” Reichstadter showed how his protest could end.
