Max joins a mission to infiltrate the Water Plant while the leader smuggles toxic substances from abroad. The scale and ambition of the plot never fails to create some suspense, even if it falls apart. A romantic tension full of grasp. Deal moves from seemingly crushed to single-minded, but doesn’t put much emphasis on his pivotal protagonist, moral or otherwise.
The opening narration asks what you would do if your entire family were killed. It sounds like a trailer hook, but the candid question emotionally places us in a Nazi hellscape more effectively than the movie’s ruins and hideout visuals. No part will ever fully meet the challenges posed by this amazing chapter in history.
