Pittsburgh Pirates star Brian Reynolds hit back at Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley on Wednesday after the legendary closer tore tissue during a game against the Boston Red Sox.
Red Sox broadcaster Eckersley was embarrassed by the Pirates lineup. He called it a “hodgepodge of nothingness” and called the organization “pathetic” because of its consistently low salaries.
Reynolds was asked about the remarks.

“I couldn’t give a crap at all to what that guy was going to say,” he told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The Pirates haven’t won much since Dave Parker and Willie Stargell took on the Baltimore Orioles in the 1979 World Series Championship.
Since their last World Series victory, the Pirates have made only six postseason appearances and haven’t even returned to the Fall Classic. Pittsburgh reached the National League Wild Card Series in 2014 and 2015, and in 2013 the National League Division Series, where he lost in five games.

The team hasn’t won more than 82 games since the playoffs, and things haven’t gotten better this season. Needless to say, the team offloaded star players like Gerrit Cole, Sterling Marte, Josh Bell and Adam Frazier and was rumored to be reconsidering with the current young squad.
Pittsburgh rejected an “attractive” offer for Reynolds weeks before the trade deadline, The Athletic reported in July. The New York Post reported that the New York Yankees, Miami Marlins, Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners were among the teams interested in him.
