San Diego is partying like it was 1998.
The Padres have long been with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but they rewrote the script for this NLDS.
With Saturday’s 5-3 win, the Padres beat the 111-win Dodgers in four games to advance to the NLCS for the first time in 24 years.
The Dodgers hit the bases loaded with no outs in the 7th inning, but only scored one run. The Padres jumped.

The Padres won the game with walks and consecutive singles, and Kim Ha-sun’s double hit reduced the number of red points to one, leading to a tie and a lead run.
Juan Soto singled with first base open to tie the game, but was still zero out.
The next two Padres retired, but after Soto stole second, Jake Cronenworth singled to center to score two runs, giving San Diego a 5–3 lead.
At the start of the 8th inning, a guerrilla downpour turned the field into a swamp. But that didn’t affect Robert Suarez, who sat the Dodgers in order in the eighth. Josh Hader did the same in the ninth inning, striking out all three batters he faced, and the celebration was on.

Freddie Freeman drove in two runs and a double in the third. Other than that, Joe Musgrove was great. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits and had 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. In Ty Anderson’s fifth inning, he struck out his six Padres, allowing only two hits and his two walks. Sure, Dodgers fans are suspicious of Dave Roberts for now.
The Dodgers are 22 games ahead of San Diego in the NL West standings. The Padres went 5-14 in the regular season against Los Angeles. From 2011 to the start of this series, the Padres went 72-148 against the Dodgers.
But all it took was one best of five series to throw the story out.
Over the last few years, Padres fans have chanted “Beat LA” over and over again, mostly out of desperation.
