New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced the end of compulsory masking for day care and school students aged 2-4.
The mayor announced on Thursday that the city government will lift the infant obligations from June 13. Adams boasted that his administration was following scientific data in decision-making because of lower infection rates.
“I’ve always said that science leads us out of a pandemic, and we followed the data showing that cases are steadily declining, so we hit the latest COVID-19 surge. I defeated it, “Adams said. Said in a statement.. “New Yorkers have begun to step up and reduce risk when we need it most.”
The mayor assured New York City residents that the school was the “safest place” for children. However, Adams went on to say that despite the option to be maskless, the city government encouraged New Yorkers to voluntarily wear masks indoors.

He writes: “Through the current wave, the school continues to be the safest place for our children, and from Monday, June 13th, masks for children aged 2-4 years in all early childhood settings. Make it an option. We will continue to wear masks indoors, regardless of age, and will make them available to children and school staff who want to continue wearing them. “
COVID-19’s pandemic mandates and slow, seemingly random rollbacks of accommodation add to the stress on already volatile New York City citizens.

According to a poll on Tuesday from the Siena College Institute, 70% of urban dwellers feel that the city is less secure than it was before the pandemic. Half of the people surveyed said they changed their daily lives to feel safer. This includes at least 40% of all autonomous regions, genders, ages, races, political parties, or income levels of adults.
Only 29% of New York City adults believe that Democratic Mayor Erik Adams is doing a good or good job overall as mayor.
“I’m with my parents in New York City, and New Yorkers can trust this administration to continue making appropriate public health decisions to keep our children safe.” The mayor said.
