A Democratic New York City Council member is crossing the political aisle to support a Republican challenger seeking to remove New York Governor Kathy Hochul.
Alderman Robert Holden, who represents parts of Queens, on Monday endorsed U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin for governor, citing the city’s crime problem and quality of life, The New York Post reported.
“Look at what’s going on in New York City and New York State,” Holden said, according to the newspaper. “We are heading in the wrong direction. The handwriting is on the wall. Lee Zeldin is the best option for voters.”

Holden and Zeldin were at City Hall in lower Manhattan.aFormer Brooklyn Rep. Dov Hikind and former Bronx City Councilman Reuben Diaz Sr. attended, The Post reported.
Democrat Ho Chul took office last year after the governor at the time. Andrew Cuomo resigns. Holden has criticized her for supporting COVID-19 emergency orders for months.
