On Tuesday, the League and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) announced a new co-funding program that will pay approximately 115 former American Basketball Players Association (ABA) players $ 3,828 a year in service.
All players played for at least three seasons and were not eligible for the NBA’s pension plan.
“Both current players and team governors felt the need to act on behalf of these former ABA players, who are aging and often face difficult economic conditions,” said the NBA Commissioner. Since 2014, the Dropping Dimes Foundation, a non-profit organization aimed at helping former ABA players who have not participated in the NBA-ABA merger, has been asking the NBA to help them.
