Automatic runner Chris Taylor advanced on an infield hit by Cody Bellinger in the 10th inning. Betts then hit a one-out drive on his line against Marlins reliever Andrew Nardi (0-1) that bounced off the left caution track.
Trea Turner hit an RBI single, Freeman hit a run-scoring double, and Max Muncy stifled a five-run blowout with a two-RBI double.
The Dodgers overcame three errors.
“We were resilient. We didn’t play good defense tonight,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “We gave them extra outs, but in the end we won the ball game.”
Marlins rookie Peyton Burdick hit a home run off David Price (2-0) to lead the ninth inning and tie the game at 5-5.
Betts’ second blowout was a game-tying solo shot from Miami against reliever Tanner Scott in the ninth to make it 4-4. This was Betts’ third multi-homer game of the season and his 23rd in his career.
“I think it was pretty cool,” Betts said of his milestone. “It’s a long time to play, so let’s see what else we can do.”
2022 MLB All-Star Game: Mookie Betts Sends Message Before First Pitch
The Marlins took a 4–3 lead on an infield hit by Joey Wendle with the bases loaded in the seventh inning. Miguel Rojas’s run-scoring base loaded a single that scored JJ Bleday from third before Wendle reached a short dribble near the first base foul line.
Betts hit a two-run shot in the top half to give Los Angeles a 3-2 advantage. He hit relief pitcher Dylan Frollo on his 2-2 pitch to the left for his 28th home run.
“That’s why he’s one of the best players in the game,” Roberts said of Betts. “It’s fun to watch. Great performance.”
Betts, who also singled at first, didn’t want to accept the explanation of relieving Los Angeles in the four-game series opener against Miami.
“I just want to win. Place doesn’t matter,” Betts said. “Every day I show up and I want to win, so I do everything I can to help my team.”
Wendle’s 2-RBI double and 6-inning home run gave the Marlins a 2–1 lead, chasing Dodgers starter Tyler Anderson. Left arm he allowed 5 and he allowed 2 runs, 3 hits, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts in 1/3 innings.
“We’re in the 10th (innings), but it was really cool to see the game come from behind in the third inning,” Wendle said. “It’s really good to see the resilience.”
After stranding six runners in the first five innings, the Dodgers broke the scoreless tie on Taylor’s sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Tommy Nance started in Miami’s bullpen game, pitching two scoreless innings of two. He walked two and hit one.

blown save
Scott, who missed his sixth save opportunity, allowed Freeman’s two-out single before walking Will Smith and Muncy. Cole Salser relieved Scott and surrendered Justin Turner’s single to center.
“It’s always been the same with Tanner,” Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. “He walks a tightrope. He’s always on the edge.
Marlins end relationship with Aguilar
Miami named veteran first baseman Jesús Aguilar. Aguilar’s playtime has dropped dramatically over the past four weeks. Aguilar, who was named an NL All-Star at Milwaukee in 2018, joined the Marlins in 2020 and led the club to a postseason appearance since winning the World Series in 2003. 49 RBI.
