Citing information from Mexican authorities, WOAH said the virus was detected in wild birds in the Metepec district west of the capital, Mexico City.

“This report represents the first isolation of HPAI virus subtype H5N1 in Mexico, occurring in non-poultry birds and one of the migratory bird corridors across the country,” the report said.
Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), commonly referred to as bird flu, killed poultry flocks in the United States and Europe this year.
