The New York Mets’ second prospect became just the fifth player in franchise history to hit a home run in a major league at-bat.
The third baseman hit a two-run shot into right field in the second inning against the National League rivals Atlanta Braves.
The Mets were already leading 2-0 thanks to a back-to-back home run. The 22-year-old prospect connected with his curve hanging from Braves pitcher Jake Odrizzi.

Batty was the 12th overall pick in the 2019 Draft, batting .315 with 19 homers and 60 RBIs between Triple-A Syracuse and Double-A Binghamton.
Before the game, he said he didn’t think much about when he would be called up.

“I wasn’t thinking about that at all. I was just thinking about winning the Syracuse ballgame. But now here I am, winning the New York Mets ballgame,” he said.
“I have no expectations of myself. I’m just going to get out there and do my best. I’m here for a reason. Show it.” , I’ll do my best there.”
Batty’s mother, father, and other relatives rushed into SunTrust Park on the occasion and jumped from their seats.

Batty became the first Mets major leaguer to hit a home run since Mike Jacobs did so on August 21, 2005 in Washington. Jacobs was later traded to the Florida Marlins in a trade for Carlos Delgado.
